Oman Plastic Bag Ban 2024–2027: Deadlines by Sector and How Your Business Can Switch

Oman is phasing out single-use plastic shopping bags in stages, sector by sector. If your business hands customers a bag, there is a deadline that applies to you, and for many sectors it has already passed. This guide summarises the timeline and explains how to switch smoothly.

What the rule says

Under Ministerial Decision No. 8/2024, single-use plastic bags thinner than 50 micrometres are being banned across retail activities in phases. Violations can lead to administrative fines of between OMR 50 and OMR 1,000, doubled for repeat offences.

The practical alternative: non-woven bags
